Ivory crackled glazed stoneware with impressed design
Slight lacks of glaze on the edge of the lid
Impressed lotus-petal band motif on the shoulder of the jar and around the lotus-finial of the cover.
The ivory glaze is thick and creamy and forms a beautiful network of crackles.
This type of jar is a Vietnamese creation, made under the Ly dynasty, they contained drinks, water or wine. They were prized as early as the 17th century as ancient jars by Japanese amateurs, who used them to hold water during the tea ceremony (1).
