Description

Alberto Guzmàn (1927-2017)

Signed Guzmàn and monogrammed red AG lower right.

The artist uses a very diluted ink and coffee, a medium that is not very popular in painting, but which Guzmàn particularly appreciated. Probably because coffee is as flexible as ink, it can be graduated from light to dark with the help of water.
We find here Alberto’s preoccupations during the 1970s and 80s, when he produced half-spheres connected by rods or bars. We are dealing here more with a sculpture than a painting. A sort of openwork bas-relief whose paper, left white, reflects a raw light.

Two drawings by Alberto Guzmàn are kept in the Louvre.
His sculptural work is exhibited at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the National Gallery in Oslo, the Lowe Museum in Miami and in many museums in Latin America. Public works have also been produced in France, Korea, Norway, Peru, the United States…
